Fantasy, History and the Sea at AIFW 2016
For the first time ever, the 27th edition of Amazon Fashion week witnessed an accessory or jewelry show. From the mesmerizing shimmer of the sea to paying homage to the Mughal dynasty and fantasy-like wilderness, the designers took the art of jewelry to the next level.
MINE OF DESIGN BY SAHAI AMBAR PARRIDI
Sahai Ambar Parridi is an upcoming jewelry designer whose collection was beautifully showcased set against flowing white garments. Her indie cool collection takes inspiration from the sea and its elements, featuring pearls, shells and its transformational colors. The very boho-looking collection comprised of beaded chains over chains attached to sunglasses and layered body chains that artistically covered the entire bust and back.
Dainty semi precious stones, beads and chains strewn together with tassels in aquamarine blue set against predominant gold translated the look and feel of the ocean in every piece. They add movement and a gypsy-like charm. Paired with layered headgear, jooda pins, maang tikkas and hair clips, it takes you back to a very sophisticated 70’s hippie era.
VALLIYAN BY NITYA ARORA
India’s rich Mughal history has been reincarnated with a modern twist by Nitya Arora. She works with orks with semi-precious stones, glass, crystals, metals, acrylic, wood and rare materials, all combined with gold plating to achieve her signature non-conformist-like pieces. Vibrantly colored, large yet intricate pieces are nothing short of statement-making! Opulent head gear, tikkas, jhumars and broaches, earrings and more are attention grabbing to say the least. Tassels add to the drama, movement and grace.
AU NATUREL BY VASUNDHARA
One of the reasons why Vasundhara’s collection is our favorite is because it has been inspired by an almost fictitious-like walk in the park. All kinds of flora and fauna has sparked the creation of this wonderful label. The collection features exquisite filigree on golden metal. Leaves, twigs, branches, jeweled insects, bugs and butterflies alongside over sized floral neckpieces and earrings. Her collection tries to depict harmony and serenity by capturing the essence of a forest with a little quirkiness. It’s edgy, complex, yet understated, making it a visual treat.
StylePrer feels – This AIFW saw a lot of jewelry inspiring garments and patterns. Along with wearable statement pieces in the Valliyan, Au Naturel and Mine of Design ranges, the coming together jewelry and jewelry inspired clothing is interesting.
